Private commission: hand carved and painted cormorant

I was commissioned by a private client to design and produce a hand carved and painted cormorant, approximately 8 inches high.

I began with several drawing studies of cormorants in the wild and at the Natural History Museum in Tring, and then settled on a design which I then modelled in clay.

The bird was then hand carved in lime wood before being painted.
