Wood carving workshop at Architectural Association School of Architecture

I was recently invited by architects Albane Duvillier and Elliot Rogosin to run a beginners' woodcarving workshop for ‘Intermediate 12’ students at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in Bedford Square, London.

I gave the students a presentation showing some of my own work and talked in general about my career.

For the workshop, I brought wood blocks, chisels, mallets and bench stops for the students to try out carving for themselves.

After a demonstration on how to use the tools and how to approach relief carving, the students created their own individual carvings.

They decided to each carve a letter or a number spelling out ‘INTER12’ which was to be shown in their course exhibition.

The students were very keen and quickly found their own individual style, creating a diverse range of letters and numbers.
